Madam Secretary is a political drama TV series which currently airs on the CBS channel. Elizabeth McCord (played by Tea Leoni) is a former CIA analyst and political science professor who is selected as the US Secretary of State by her former boss who now happens to be the President. Since Elizabeth is not a seasoned politician, her decisions are often opposed by the Chief of Staff leading to frequent confrontations between the two. She is also made Acting President for a short time when the President’s plane loses communication and people in the line of succession are not able to take the role of President due to various reasons. The series also portrays how Elizabeth tries to maintain a balance between her family life and the daily challenges that she faces as the Secretary of State. The series stars Tea Leoni as the US Secretary of State and is executive produced by Morgan Freeman. The show made its debut in October’ 2014 to mostly positive reviews. In January’ 2015, CBS renewed the series for a second season which premiered in October’ 2015. In this article, we’ll go over how you can watch the show

Where To Watch Madam Secretary TV Series?

Madam Secretary is telecast on Sunday nights at 8:00 PM on the CBS channel. If you are a cord cutter, you can watch the show online via this link.

The above link is accessible only from US territories since CBS has decided to geographically restrict the show’s availability. When American tourists, expats or business travelers try to watch the series from an overseas location, they are confronted with the following message:

“The-video-you-have-requested-is-not-available-for-your-geographical-region”

While these type of geographical restrictions do not make much sense to viewers, there are some really good reasons why they are in place. CBS has partnered with a number of overseas TV channels (Global TV in Canada, Network ten in Australia, Sky Living in UK, TV3 in Ireland etc.) to distribute the show abroad and in return has agreed not to allow international viewers to stream the show online. Such restrictions are not unique to CBS or Madam Secretary either; they are commonplace in the Television industry.

How To Access Madam Secretary From Any Location?

Like other content creators, CBS relies on the IP addresses of viewers to judge their location. This also means that it is possible to bypass CBS’ filters if you change your IP address to a US IP. Thanks to hundreds of VPN and SmartDNS services, these days changing of a computer’s or Smartphone’s IP address is not a difficult task at all. Here are the steps which allow you to stream the show from outside US:

Step 1) Compare the features of different VPN and SmartDNS service providers and choose a service which provides US IPs or supports streaming of CBS shows. If you are not able to make a decision, here are some good recommendations:

Step 2) Install the VPN client supplied by your service provider or follow the setup instructions to configure the service manually. The manual configuration process is extremely simple since it involves changing the device’s default network settings.

Step 3) Complete the setup process by saving the changes. For mobile devices, it is also necessary to shut down and restart the official CBS app.

Step 4) Once the VPN/SmartDNS setup is complete, you can connect to the service and get a new IP address. Start the service by clicking on its icon or by navigating to the Network Settings area of your computer/mobile device.

Step 5) Once connected, check whether you have been assigned a US IP address by your service provider. This step isn’t necessary if you have configured the service manually since you would have used a US VPN server at that time. If you discover that your new IP address is not from United States, you just need to choose a different US-based server to get an American IP address.

Step 6) Visit the Madam Secretary homepage via a browser or the CBS app. Since you are now using an American IP address to access the site, CBS shouldn’t block you from accessing the show.
