Jane the Virgin is a romantic comedy and satirical TV series which premiered on CWTV in October’ 2014. The show is based on Venezuelan TV series Juana la Virgen and was adapted by Jennie Snyder Urman for the American market. Jane-the-Virgin received universal acclaim upon its debut and even won People’s Choice and Golden Globe awards for Best New Comedy and Best Actress categories. So let’s and take a look how we might be able to watch from anywhere in the USA or abroad.
How To Stream Jane the Virgin Online?
The latest episodes of the series are available for streaming through the following link.
However, this streaming option won’t work for American expats or non-Americans since CWTV has decided to restrict the show’s availability only inside United States. When someone from abroad tries to watch the show’s latest episodes by clicking on the above link, he/she will see the following message:
“Sorry,-this-content-is-not-available-in-your-location”
Why CWTV Blocks Access To Jane the Virgin And What Can Be Done About It?
CWTV doesn’t let people from outside America watch the show in order to honor the content sharing agreements which it has signed with its overseas broadcasting partners (Fox8 in Australia, Global TV in Canada, E4 in UK, Sony Channel in SouthEast Asia). The licensing agreements signed by these companies forbid any provider from telecasting the show outside its designated country/territory. Since checking of IP addresses is one of the easiest and most reliable ways of checking one’s location, CWTV scans the IPs of its viewers and lets them stream the content only if they happen to be from United States.
If you want to stream Jane the Virgin from an overseas location then you need to first get rid of your non-US IPs while visiting the CWTV site (through browser or app). This can be achieved by using technological solutions like VPNs or SmartDNS services which alter IP addresses/DNS settings with the click of a button. While all this may sound complicated, in reality you can unlock the show from anywhere just by following a series of simple steps:
Step 1) The first step is obviously signing up with a VPN or SmartDNS service. Here are some service providers which are known to provide fast and reliable IP/DNS changing solutions:
- ExpressVPN, HideMyAss, IPVanish, VyprVPN, proXPN, Overplay, StrongVPN, PureVPN, Private Internet Access, VPNSecure, VPN.ac, Unlocator, SmartDNS Proxy, and Unblock-US
Step 2) Once the subscription process is over, you can now set up the service on your computer, mobile or gaming device (or even a router). Most VPN companies offer custom clients for Windows/Mac but you may have to configure the service manually on mobile and gaming devices. The configuration itself is extremely simple and can be done by anyone having minimal technical knowledge.
Step 3) Save the configuration changes to finish the setup/configuration process. If you installed a new software on your device then you may also have to reboot your machine. For mobile devices, it is usually sufficient to save the configuration changes and then close and restart the CWTV app.
Step 4) Connect to the newly setup service by clicking on its icon. If you configured the service manually then you would need to navigate to the Network Settings area and start the service from over there.
Step 5) Once the connection is successful, your IP/DNS settings will change automatically. While many providers have their default VPN servers within United States, some of them have deployed them elsewhere. If your new IP address happens to be from Europe, Canada or Australia, simply look for available VPN servers and choose the nearest (or the least loaded) US server as your server of choice.
Step 6) Open the CWTV app/default browser and try to stream the episodes of Jane the Virgin now. Since all IP/DNS related roadblocks have been take care of by your VPN/SmartDNS provider, you should be able to stream the series without encountering any error messages.
