Empire is a soap opera which airs on Fox. The series made its debut in January’ 2015 to mostly positive reviews from the critics. The premier episode of the show marked Fox’s highest-rated debut in more than three years plus the series is the only TV series in the last 23 years for which viewership increased week-after-week for the first 5 episodes. Even the first season finale surpassed The Big Bang Theory in ratings and Grey’s Anatomy in debut season final ratings. The second season of the series premiered in September’ 2015.

Empire Storyline

Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard) was a drug dealer until he found success with hip-hop and became CEO of Empire Entertainment. When Lucious discovers that he has ALS, he looks forward to groom one of his sons for taking care of the business; thus pitting them against one another. To complicate the matters even further, Lucious’s ex-wife gets released from the prison and wants her share of the pie.

How To Watch Empire?

Empire is telecast on Wednesday nights at 9 PM. If you cannot catch the episodes on TV for some reason, you can always stream them via the Fox website.

However, you would not be able to stream Empire’s episodes if you are not based in United States. When viewers from outside US try to stream the series from the above link, they see the following “Content Unavailable” message:

“The-video-you-are-attempting-to-watch-is-only-available-to-viewers-within-the-US,-US-territories,-and-military-bases.”

While these restrictions may seem baffling in the age of internet, you need to keep in mind that Fox needs to honor the content sharing agreements which it has signed with its partners. The channel has tied up with many international content providers (E4 in UK, Omni Television in Canada, Network Ten in Australia) to distribute the series outside American borders and in return it has surrendered the rights to broadcast the show in these territories. To enforce these restrictions, Fox checks the IP address of all its viewers and only allows those with a US IP address to actually stream the content.

How To Bypass Fox’s Restrictions And Unlock Empire Series From Anywhere?

In order to beat Fox’s GEO-IP filters, you would need to change your IP address or DNS settings. This can be done through a VPN, proxy or SmartDNS service. Truth be told, proxies cannot deliver speeds or privacy needed for unlocking GEO-IP restricted streaming services so I recommend subscribing to a VPN or SmartDNS service. Here are the simple steps that can unlock Empire (as well as other Fox shows) from anywhere:

Step 1) The first step is to sign-up with a trusted VPN or SmartDNS service. Here are some companies that have very high customer satisfaction ratings:

Step 2) Configure the service on your laptop/mobile device as per the instructions supplied by your vendor. Many providers do offer pre-configured clients but even if such a software is not available, you can configure the service by navigating to the network connections area of your device.

Step 3) Save the changes and reboot your machine if necessary. If you wish to stream Fox’s shows on your Smartphone/tablet then you must also close and restart the Fox app. Doing so would clear the old network/IP settings and allow the app to use the new networking configuration.

Step 4) Test the VPN/SmartDNS service once the setup is complete. Click on the service’s icon on desktop or browse to the newly configured connection settings in order to start the service.

Step 5) If you configured the service manually then you can proceed to the next step. However, if you are using the VPN client supplied by your vendor then it is important to check the location of the IP address assigned by your VPN company. These days it is not uncommon for VPN vendors to have servers spread all over the world so it is not far-fetched to get a non-US IP address upon initial connection. If this happens with you, simply use a US based server to unlock US based streaming services.

Step 6) Fire up your favorite browser or the Fox app and navigate to the homepage of Empire. Since your new IP/DNS settings are from with United States now, Fox would allow you to stream the show.
