LiquidVPN Review – Excellent Security At Your Fingertips

Thursday, July 4th, 2013

LiquidVPN is a totally new VPN service provider. Launched in 2013, the service is brought to you by a Michigan, US based company which aims to deliver the best VPN service to its customers. In the detailed LiquidVPN Review below, we will look at most important features of the service and judge if it is worth subscribing.

Server Locations and Site Access

LiquidVPN has VPN servers in 5 different countries – United States, Netherlands, Canada, France and Germany. Although some important VPN markets such as United Kingdom are missing from the list, you must keep in mind that the service is quite new and the staff is rolling out new servers gradually. As far as access to GEO-IP restricted sites is concerned, the service allows you to unlock Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO Go, NFL, ABC Player, CBS, NBC, Spotify, Rara, CTV, Pandora, Xfinity, Eurosport, Vudu and MTV irrespective of your current location. The service is also ideal for those who are looking for an anonymizing service to bypass the firewalls set up by their ISPs or network administrators. So if you want to unlock Facebook, Gmail, YouTube, Skype, Twitter or gaming sites from your school, organization or from countries like China, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and UAE then LiquidVPN would be a great choice for you. The company’s VPN plans come with unlimited server switching so you can unlock local services from all the 5 countries where the company has its servers.

VPN Speed and Bandwidth

LiquidVPN offers both metered and unmetered VPN plans. The fixed bandwidth plans are great for light web activity while the unlimited plans are ideal for downloading huge files, streaming movies and TV shows, FTP, VOIP and online gaming. Regardless of the plan you choose, you will experience very high speeds since most LiquidVPN servers are connected to Gigabit nodes. The company even allows torrenting activities from few servers so you can use the service to hide your peer to peer sharing activities.

Privacy Settings

LiquidVPN offers military grade, 256bit-1024bit OpenVPN encryption with 128bit Microsoft MS-CHAP V2. The level of encryption on offer is being used by some of the biggest corporations in the world. The high level of security ensures that your web activities like emailing, instant messaging, browsing, FTP and VOIP remain totally hidden from your ISPs, network administrators and criminals. The company also offers a top grade hotspot protection solution that allows you to secure your identity, financial transactions and other vital data while using low security wireless networks prevalent at airports, book shops, coffee shops, public parks and shopping malls.

LiquidVPN has a strict zero logging policy. The company does not spy on customers’ online activities nor do they record IP addresses of the users. Moreover, the customer details are never sold to third parties or advertisers.

Supported Operating Systems

LiquidVPN offers a custom-made VPN client (powered by Viscosity) for Windows and Mac operating systems. The VPN client is loaded with features and allows you to change servers, modify VPN protocol settings, monitor your traffic details and even contact helpdesk with the click of a button. The service is also compatible with Android Smartphones and tablets, iPads and iPhones plus it can be configured on Xbox 360, PS3 and Boxee through DD-WRT routers. The setup is really simple for most systems and even non-technical people should be able to configure the service on their own. The service provides unlimited port forwarding and also offers static IP on request. What’s more, the service allows multiple concurrent connections so your entire family can secure themselves with just one VPN subscription.

Customer Support

The company offers live chat and email based support. The live chat facility is available only during business hours so it is best to use email support for resolving urgent technical or connectivity issues. The company has published detailed installation instructions and some troubleshooting guides on its website so you should be able to resolve common technical problems on your own.

Pricing Options

LiquidVPN’s unlimited plans (with 4 concurrent connections) start from $9.5 per month ($42.75 for 6 months and $62.7 for 1 year). The company also offers a Lite plan for mobile devices and lightweight browsing activities. The Lite plan comes with a 5 GB per month bandwidth limit and is available for $5 a month ($22.5 for 6 months and $33 for 1 year). The company has a 30 day refund policy (bandwidth usage should be less than 5 GB) but it does not offer a free trial. The company even accepts payment through bitcoins which is yet another big plus.

Final Verdict

Overall, LiquidVPN delivers a solid VPN service. While the service is quite new and the company does not have servers in many countries, it delivers fast speeds and high levels of security. I just started using liquidvpn because they have an optional static IP address and simple port forwarding. I am now able to run a web server from my broadband connection with a dynamic IP address. It is great. I hated having to use dyndns because it didn’t work well and I had trouble setting up an actual domain name on the server. My only real complaint is they do not allow me to run a mail server from the dedicated IP address.
