How to Watch Arrow Outside of the USA

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

Arrow is superhero TV series that made its debut on The CW TV Network in October, 2012. The series was developed by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and is based on The Green Arrow comic series published by DC comics. Arrow has received very good response from critics as well as audiences (score of 73 on Metacritic and IMDB rating of 8.1). The series was renewed for the second season in 2013 and it has also been nominated for Teen Choice, Saturn and People’s Choice awards for its first season.

Arrow Storyline and Plot

Arrow tells the story of Oliver Queen (played by Stephen Amell), a billionaire and playboy, who returns to Starling City after a gap of 5 years. Oliver had to spend his time away on a desolate island following a shipwreck that claimed the lives of his father and love interest. As well as catching up with the society, Oliver now acts as a vigilante at night (going by the name Green Arrow) to cure the ills of the society and restore the city back to its glory days.

Arrow Online Availability

Arrow is telecast exclusively on The CW TV channel and is also available for online viewing through the CWTV portal. But since the CWTV site is not accessible outside United States, fans of the show (including expats and travelers) would not be able to watch its latest episodes online. If people try to access the Arrow episodes on CWTV portal from a different country, they will only see a blank screen.

How CWTV Blocks Access To Arrow And What Can Be Done About It

Content providers like CWTV usually sign content sharing agreement with other broadcasters which prohibits them from broadcasting shows outside specific regions. It is easy to enforce such measures on traditional TV channels; however it is far more difficult to restrict access to online portals. To honor its content sharing agreements online, CWTV checks the location of each visitor who visits its website. The location of the visitors is revealed through their IP address which can also tell lot more information to content providers like CWTV.

Since the IP address plays such an important role in location detection, you need to get an American IP to make CWTV think that you are accessing the site from United States. There are many ways to get a USA IP but proxies and VPNs are considered as the best options. VPNs, in particular, seem to be tailor-made for online streaming services since they deliver ultra-fast speeds and also protect your real IP address at all times.

How To Access Arrow From Outside US With A VPN

Step 1: Subscribe to a VPN plan that offers a USA based IP address. For unlocking Arrow episodes, we highly recommend subscribing to SwitchVPNInvisible BrowsingVyprVPN, or IPVanish since these companies are well-known for their American VPN plans and offer extremely fast speeds.

Step 2: Next you need to setup the service on your computer or mobile device by either downloading-installing the VPN client on your system (computers) or tweaking few network parameters (computers and mobile devices). The setup process is usually very easy and should not take more than few minutes. Make sure to refer to the detailed setup instructions provided by your VPN company so that you are able to configure the VPN service correctly.

Step 3: The next step involves saving the new network configuration. For Smartphones/tablets it is usually sufficient to just Save the changes whereas for computers your may even have to reboot the machine after saving the changes. Also, do not forget to close and restart CWTV app on your mobile devices so that it uses the new network settings.

Step 4: Start the VPN program by clicking on the desktop icon or connect to the service by tapping on the Connect button on your mobile screen. The actual connection time would depend on your present location and the speed delivered by your ISP but usually you should be able to connect to the default VPN server within few seconds.

Step 5: If the default VPN server is not United States, search for a US based server and use it as your preferred server before you connect to the CWTV website. Most providers have servers scattered all across the globe so you may have to choose a USA based VPN server manually. In addition, if your VPN vendor has multiple servers within US, pick a server that is close to your current location to get fastest streaming speeds.

Step 6: Visit the CWTV portal again and click on Arrow episode names to watch the videos. If you prefer to watch the videos through mobile devices, close the CWTV app and restart it so that it uses current network settings. If you are not able to use the service or watch the videos for some reason, contact the support staff or refer to the knowledgebase section on your VPN provider’s site to troubleshoot the problem.

Congratulations, you have succeeded in unlocking Arrow from just about any location in the world.
