Thursday, October 17th, 2013

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is a police procedural TV series which made its debut in September, 2003. The series was developed by Donald Bellisario and Don McGill for the CBS TV Network. NCIS has received an excellent response from the viewers (IMDB rating 7.7) and its tenth season (telecast during 2012-13) was the most watched TV series in United States. The show’s past seasons have won ASCAP, BMI and Young Artist awards and the series was renewed for its eleventh season in 2013.

NCIS Plot And Storyline

The NCIS series is focused around the activities of a team of special agents belonging to NCIS’ Major Case Response Team (MCRT). The team is based in Washington D.C. and investigates crimes that involve Marine Corps and US Navy. The team is headed by Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a former Marine and a highly skilled investigator, who often relies on his gut instincts to solve the cases. The MCRT is often assigned high profile cases involving kidnapping, murder and terrorist threats involving Marine Corps or Navy personnel and their dependents.

NCIS Availability

NCIS is telecast at 8 P.M., Thursday nights on the CBS Channel. The show is also available to online viewers from United States through the official CBS channel. International visitors, including US expats and travelers located abroad, would just see the message – “The video you have requested is not available for your geographic region” whenever they try to watch NCIS’ episodes online.

How CBS Blocks Access To NCIS Online

CBS does not allow people from outside United States to watch NCIS’ episodes online since it does not have rights to broadcast the show outside US. The rights are held by local TV channels and other content providers (Global Television Network in Canada, Sat.1 in Germany, M6 in France, TV3 in Norway, Denmark and Sweden among others). To enforce these measures, CBS checks the IP address of people trying to access the show’s episodes and only allows visitors having a US IP address to watch the show.

Since the GEO-IP restrictions for NCIS are based on your IP address, it is easy to bypass them by using an IP changing service. The IP changing services like VPNs and proxies make it easy to get an IP address from United States and access restricted sites like CBS from anywhere. Although proxies are considered as extremely user friendly, VPNs deliver much better speeds and protect your real IP address at all times so they should be preferred while accessing online streaming services.

How To Unlock NCIS From Abroad With A VPN

Step 1: Get a new VPN subscription from a vendor that delivers US based IP addresses. For unlocking NCIS, we highly recommend subscribing to StrongVPN, VPN4ALL, PureVPN, BolehVPN or ExpressVPN since these providers are well-known for their US VPN service and they also provide unlimited speeds with unrestricted bandwidth.

Step 2: Set up the service on your computer or mobile device by following the instructions provided by your VPN vendor. A lot of VPN companies also provide custom VPN clients for Windows based computers which can be set up just like any other software.

Step 3: Save the new connection details and restart the system if necessary. If you configured the service on your mobile device, you must also close and restart the CBS app in order to use the latest networking parameters.

Step 4: Click on the VPN icon or VPN connection name appearing in the Start menu to start using the service. The time required to connect to the default VPN server depends on your internet speed and location so you may need to wait for few moments before the connection is established.

Step 5: Verify that you have a US IP address by visiting an IP checking service. If the IP address is still not from US then you must browse through the server list of your provider and choose a US based server as your VPN server. It is also advisable to opt for a US server located close to your current location so that you can enjoy the NCIS episodes at best speeds.

Step 6: Visit the CBS website again by typing its address in the browser or by closing and restarting the CBS app. Click on episode names of NCIS and verify that you can watch the videos without running into any IP based restrictions. You are now free to watch the latest episodes of NCIS from any country in the world.
