Thursday, December 31st, 2015

The 2015–16 NHL season is upon us and it promises to be a grand action packed sporting extravaganza. The current season, which kicked off on 7th October’ 2015, is the 98th season of play and would feature 30 teams and a total of 1230 games. The 2015–16 season also includes some new rules like 3-on-3 overtime, expanded video reviews as well as the new faceoff rule. This season will continue until 9th April’ 2016 and would culminate with 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

NHL Hockey 2015-16 Predictions

While Chicago Blackhawks were the overall champions last year, they are unlikely to repeat the feat this time. Most experts are predicting that Washington Capitals will win the current season while last year’s runners-up Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks have also emerged as heavy favorites. Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is likely to win the Rocket Richard Trophy once again after winning it three times in a row whereas Sidney Crosby is the clear favorite to win the Hart trophy, Carey Price is likely to win Vezina Trophy while Drew Doughty is likely to emerge as the Norris Trophy winner.

NHL 2015-16 Season Broadcast

The broadcasting rights for the current NHL season were purchased by NBC Sports for United States, Premier Sports for United Kingdom, Sportsnet and TVA Sports for Canada, Canal+ for France and Fox Sports for Australia. NHL fans can also stream the games live through the following sites:

While the above streaming services have made it a lot easier to stream NHL games on mobile devices and computers, they are only meant for native viewers. This means unless you are based in United States (and consequently have a US IP address), you won’t be able to watch live NHL matches through the NBC Sports website. Similarly, Fox Sports’ coverage of NHL games is available only within Australia, JSports streaming works only within Japan while the option to watch live NHL games through Premier Sports won’t work unless you are based in United Kingdom.

These types of geographical restrictions present a huge challenge for NHL fans who need to travel frequently for work and/or personal reasons. Since the live streaming of NHL games is not available in all countries, expats and tourists often miss out the NHL action just because of their current location. If you travel a lot and wish to stream NHL games regardless of your location then I suggest subscribing to a VPN service. VPNs have the power of changing your IP address and assigning you an IP from the location of your choice. Thus, you can get a US IP in Africa, British IP in Asia and even an Australian IP while visiting Latin America. By changing your IP address, VPNs allow you to bypass strict restrictions imposed by the above websites and stream NHL games from anywhere.
