Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Apple has truly revolutionized the way we communicate and work while on the go. The extremely popular Apple devices like iPhones and iPads have become an integral part of our daily lives. Moreover, thanks to the groundbreaking innovations in communications and wireless technology, it is easier than ever to remain connected and access our favorite communication and entertainment options from anywhere.

However, the free to use wireless networks come with their own set of risks. Most Wi-Fi hotspots available at commercial establishments like shopping malls, coffee shops, book shops, airports and public parks use bare minimum level of security. Hence it becomes extremely easy for hackers, sniffing programs and snoopers to steal money, personal data and identity.

To secure your online sessions through Wi-Fi hotspots, you need to use a strong privacy solution like a virtual private network that encrypts all online traffic. VPNs also protect you against local censorship and allow you to watch your favorite streaming websites like Hulu, Netflix, MTV, YouTube, etc. even while you are travelling. In the article below, you will learn how to configure a PPTP VPN on Apple devices like iPhones and iPads.

How To Configure PPTP VPN On iPhones And iPads

1) To start the configuration process, close all the active apps and go to the home screen. Tap on the Settings icon to open up the settings window where you can change settings for just about anything.

2) In the Settings screen, tap on the General option.

3) In the General Settings screen, tap on the Network option.

4) In the Network screen, you will see the available Network configuration options. Tap on the VPN option to view and modify existing VPN connections or to create a completely new VPN connection.

5) In the VPN screen, tap on “Add VPN Configuration” option to add a new VPN connection.

6) In the Add Configuration window, tap on the PPTP option. Enter an easy to remember name for the new connection in the Description box. If you are planning to create multiple VPN connections then it is recommended that you use VPN provider name along with server country or city as the VPN connection name. For instance, if you are connecting to Miami based server of SampleVPNSite company then you can name the connection as SampleVPNSite-Miami.

Type the VPN server URL or its IP address in the Server input box. If your VPN provider offers servers at several locations then you will need to create separate VPN connections for each server (or create one VPN connection and modify the server URL before connecting to the service).

Type the Username and Password provided to you by the VPN provider in the Account and Password input boxes. Set the encryption level to Auto and “Send All Traffic” value to On. Tap on the Save button to save and apply the VPN settings.

7) To test the service, tap the ON option located next to VPN. After the VPN connection is established, you can verify the connection status by looking at the status message. To stop the service, just tap the OFF option located next to VPN.
